U.S. senators today voted to confirm FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel to a third term, assuring that Rosenworcel can remain on the commission through 2025 and avoiding an unusual scenario in which Republicans could have held an FCC majority while a Democrat president was in office.

Senators voted 68-31 to support President Joe Biden’s renomination of Rosenworcel, whose second term expired earlier this year and would have been required to step down from the FCC at the end of the month without a confirmation vote. Penobscot County EMS faces staffing crisis (ME)

EMS departments are struggling statewide, but officials say they’ve gotten worse in the last three months.

PENOBSCOT COUNTY, Maine — Across the state, many emergency medical services departments are critically short-staffed, and that problem only seems to be getting worse.

Dispatchers who answer 911 calls and send out EMS crews said they’re regularly sending ambulances outside of their coverage areas to help cover emergency calls.

Chris Lavoie, Penobscot Regional Communications Center director, said his dispatchers are frequently calling as many as seven different departments to find an available ambulance crew to send to a medical emergency… 

Okaloosa County Commission approves $19.7M loan for public safety tech (FL)

CRESTVIEW — The largest piece of the funding mix to pay for a massive Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office emergency communications equipment project fell into place Tuesday.

That’s when the County Commission unanimously agreed to borrow $19.7 million from the Santa Rosa Beach branch of Trustmark National Bank to cover the bulk of the $26.5 million project. It could be completed by early to mid-2024….

Board to hear PSAP consolidation update (AR)

City directors will hear an update concerning the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) consolidation on Tuesday during the city board meeting.

In 2019, the state legislature adopted Act 660, which replaced the Arkansas Telephone Emergency Services Board with the Arkansas 911 Board, according to a staff report prepared by City Administrator Phillip Patterson on Nov. 30.

The act requires the board develop a plan by January of 2022 to provide funding for a limited number of PSAPs, which are generally referred to as state 911 call centers, the report states… READ MORE
