On Jan. 5, the Regional Emergency Medical Service Authority (REMSA Health) and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) announced a partnership aimed at enhancing emergency services for the Northern Nevada region.
The partnership comes as a response to Washoe County’s “rapid expansion and growth and the need to provide innovative solutions to emergency medical response,” according to a press release.
On Dec. 15, REMSA Health’s Emergency Communication Center began receiving emergency calls from residents in unincorporated areas of Washoe County that require fire response. Previously, calls were dispatched by Washoe County…

Trumbull County and its three commissioners are named in an age discrimination civil rights lawsuit filed by former county 911 director Ernest Cook.
Filed in U.S. District Court, the attorney for the 70-year-old Cook alleges that he was removed a year ago from the job which he held since 2015.
Cook claims he was replaced with someone his lawsuit alleges was less qualified and 30 years younger than him.
The suit claims that commissioner Niki Frenchko ran for County Commissioner on a platform of “Getting rid of the good old boys” which Cook says resulted in the decision to terminate at least five senior County employees. KINGMAN – The Kingman City Council will consider purchasing a Fire Priority Dispatch software add-on for the Kingman Regional 911 Dispatch Center at the Tuesday, Jan. 18 meeting. It’s set for 5 p.m. in council chambers at 310 N. 4th St.
The city’s communications center installed the Medical Priority Dispatch (MPDS) protocols in 2015 for structured medical call-taking software, ProQA. According to the agenda, the medical protocols success over the past seven years will allow the department to implement Fire Priority Dispatch System protocols utilizing the same ProQA software, which can be switched by the call-taker for fire incidents. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department last week encrypted its radio communications, blocking the public from listening to information about public safety matters in real time.
The department is the latest law enforcement agency in the county and state to cut off access to radio communications in response to a California Department of Justice mandate that required agencies to protect certain personal information that law enforcement personnel obtain from state databases. Such information — names, drivers license numbers, dates of birth and other information from the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, or CLETS — sometimes is broadcast over police radios…

Final tweaks to the new 800 MHz county emergency radio system are underway.
“We thought the to go-live date would be at the end of February. But it’s going to be a little bit later,” Branch County Administrator bud Norman told the 911 board this week.
Contractor J&K Communication has started programming the digital equipment.
“We see the light at the tunnel,” said technical committee chair Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz. “All the towers are up. We’ve done the coverage testing. All passed. All the radios, mobiles portables are here.” …

Texting, videos and images will be a part of a new 9-1-1 system being rolled out over the next three years.
