Sheriff’s office to implement life-saving software program (OH)

SIDNEY — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office recently enabled RapidSOS, a solution that provides life-saving data – including caller location, health and medical information, connected building and alarm date, vehicle telematics data, and more – to 911 telecommunicators and first responders in the event of an emergency.

“When we go live, this will benefit the caller but will also enable a faster response time from the deputies, therefore getting them to the location faster,” Shelby County Sheriff Jim Frye said…

Lucas County’s 911 consolidation runs into early issues (OH)

TOLEDO, Ohio — It’s been four months since Lucas County’s eight regional 911 call centers were consolidated into one central hub at the 911 Regional Council of Governments in Central Toledo.

So far, Sylvania’s director of public safety says the new system is experiencing some growing pains. However, both city leaders and county 911 officials say they’re working together to improve operations.

“When you bring in that many agencies together, you just have to change some of those procedures and everybody has to adapt to each other,” Sylvania Director of Public Safety Kevin Aller said… READ MORE

Kentucky bill would help fund new suicide prevention hotline

A recently introduced Kentucky House bill would fund the state’s implementation of a simplified suicide prevention hotline through a tax on mobile phones.

Kentucky’s legislation proposes a 70-cent mobile phone tax on all monthly mobile phone bills, phone cards, additional minutes and the sale and recharging of prepaid phones, starting Jan. 1. The structure is similar to taxes taken out for 9-1-1 services.

Banta also said that often people having a mental health crisis – or their friends or loved ones – call 9-1-1 because it’s the number they know… READ MORE

Public service has always been Hanson’s calling.

“I must’ve always known I was going to get in the field to help people,” he told the Press & Dakotan. “I joined the Vermillion Fire Department when I turned 18 and was still a senior (in high school).”

He said he served with the Vermillion Ambulance for eight years, his career taking a different trajectory than what he’d first anticipated…

Franklin County: Dispatcher Licorish gets stork award (PA)

You could say that local 911 dispatcher Jamal Licorish is a “stork.”

At least he acted in lieu of the popular bird last year when he helped bring a new Franklin County resident into the world.

This week he won a “stork” award for his role in the birth of that baby boy last fall. Licorish is a shift supervisor at the Franklin County Emergency Services call center.

Franklin County Commissioners joined the Emergency Health Services Federation (EHSF) in recognizing Licorish this week…

New approach aims to improve efficiency and response time for Fargo air ambulance (ND)

(Fargo, ND) — A new approach is being used to get Fargo’s air ambulance to emergency scenes more quickly.

“At the time of the 9-1-1 call, the dispatchers at the Red River Regional Dispatch Center will determine whether it’s an appropriate emergency for a helicopter and dispatch the helicopter at that point so that can save us up to 15 minutes,” said Tim Meyer, Senior Director for FM Ambulance.

Meyer oversees the helicopter that is based at Sanford Health in Fargo.  He says dispatchers have adopted the protocol “Air Med Auto Launch”…
