Riley County commissioners on Thursday gave approval for an architecture firm to determine the best size and space for a new EMS headquarters.
The commission approved Lenexa-based firm Archimages to conduct a site and space needs study as the first part of the first phase of the project. Phase one of the public safety headquarters project will cost $87,150. MCCORMICK — A dream that was years in the making is now a reality, as McCormick County’s new emergency services facility allows for shared resources and collaboration under one roof.
The new facility had its grand opening this week, with officials offering tours of the 10,000-square-foot building on South Mine Street. The facility houses emergency management, the county’s emergency operations center, fire supports services, 911 dispatch and the county coroner’s office and morgue.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles City Council is asking for public input on the possible use of the Volunteer Practice Field for a Joint Public Safety Facility.
A special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday is for the purpose of hearing comments about the possible 18th Street location of the facility that would house a Clallam County emergency operations center, the Peninsula Communications dispatch center — which is operated by the city — and perhaps a westside city fire station, according to City Manager Nathan West…

Newport News was one of the first cities in Virginia to start sending mental health professionals to 911 calls for mental health crises.
