Clark County 911 dispatchers tackle difficult job — and they are hiring (WA)

Several of Clark County’s 911 dispatchers never imagined they’d be the ones answering the phones when someone calls about an emergency.

One said she was working at a bank when she decided to apply at the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency’s dispatch center. Another was at a dental office, and another was working toward medical school.

They applied at the agency for the challenge, the fast pace, and a schedule of four days on and four days off…

One thing the 9-1-1 community learned from the pandemic was the need to plan for alternate ways to work. Rather than be tied to workstations at fixed locations, 9-1-1 telecommunicators need flexibility to remotely take, dispatch, and supervise calls. In December 2021, Maryland telecommunicators put FirstNet to the test, demonstrating the network’s connectivity and reliability during remote operations.

Minneapolis 911 call center faces ’emergency’staffing shortage (MN)

A staffing shortage at the Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center (MECC) has reached an ’emergency’ level, according to city officials.

Jodi Hodne, the assistant director for the city’s 911 call center, told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the MECC is facing a staffing shortage that reaches an ’emergency’ level as the agency heads into the high-call-volume summer months.

A current MECC employee said the staffing levels are considered among staff to be at a ‘crisis’ level…

Manchester voters say no to regional 911 dispatch in town election

Voters elected new members to the School Committee and Select Board, and voted against moving 911 calls to a regional emergency dispatch center during the town’s election Tuesday.

Voters also said no to ballot Question 1, which asked Manchester voters if they would recommend the Select Board to pursue securing public safety dispatch services through the North Shore Regional 911 Center and phase out the town’s dispatch operations…

12 new towers being built to improve public safety communications in rural areas of Okaloosa (FL)

Losing a signal or not being able to request help in rural parts of Okaloosa County can cost first responders vital seconds during rescues or other types of emergencies.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office began looking at updating systems during former Sheriff Larry Ashley’s tenure, and now the project is beginning to come to fruition.

The Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners approved sites for the first three new 800Mhz P25 emergency communications towers at their May 3 meeting. The towers will be built throughout the county to allow for comprehensive communications between firefighters, police and EMS…
