This coastal town has gone old school with a modern twist — installing an emergency call box powered by satellite, battery, and solar power across the street from Black Rock Beach in Wadleigh Park, an area infamous locally for its lack of cell service.
At 6 a.m. this morning, the Ohio Telecommunicators Emergency Response Taskforce (Ohio TERT) departed Columbus for Lee County, Fort Myers, Florida to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

The North Carolina 911 Board has awarded $16.3 million in grants that will benefit 911 call centers in 11 counties and cities across the state. The board also is opening a new round of funding for cooperation and enhancements by local public safety answering points (PSAP) around the state.
Organizations and agencies in our area are continuing to send crews down to Florida for Hurricane Ian relief efforts.

The six telecommunicators from Hamilton County will be joined by 16 others from across the state. They will be deploying to Naples, Florida to assist with staffing at the 911 centers.
A team (TERT) of 911 emergency communications specialist deployed Friday for an operation in Naples, Florida, to help local first responders with answering emergency calls and dispatching resources as Florida continues to recover from Hurricane Ian. Hawkins County ECD is a member of the Tennessee Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce.
