PORTSMOUTH, Va – In an empowerment forum Thursday night in Portsmouth, residents addressed their concerns about 911 dispatch times to the city’s 911 administrator, Paula Garner, and City Manager Mimi Terry.
Kimberly Wilson never saw herself working in emergency services, but since becoming a 911 dispatcher in Montgomery County two years ago, she found her calling and never looked back.
Members of the Little Rock Board of Directors on Tuesday were told that the city’s 911 communications personnel picked up approximately 70% of calls within 20 seconds so far this year, a rate that falls below national benchmarks.
Last year, approximately 79% of calls were answered in 20 seconds or less, according to a presentation delivered to city board members during a meeting Tuesday.
