DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. — A recent study into communications problems
experienced by Daviess County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters found
the county’s communication system is obsolete in places and is in need
of upgrades or replacement.
The study gives Daviess Fiscal Court
some short-term fixes that can be performed at a relatively low cost.
The report also lays out options for overhauling or replacing the system
that will cost millions of dollars.

Lincoln County servers have been infiltrated by
ransomware for the second time in less than two weeks. This time, it was
servers within Lincoln County Communications that were hacked. Issues
were discovered by Lincoln County Information Technology staff around
8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, according to a press release issued by
Bill Gibbs, director of the Lincoln County Communications Center.
To
date, no requests for ransom or other contact has been made by the
hacker. Local, regional and federal resources including the National
Guard, the FBI and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s
Office have been contacted for support. No personal data was
compromised that the county knows of, and it is unknown at this time how
long it will take to get the servers back in operation, according to
county manager Kelly Atkins.
“The servers could be back up as quick as a week or as long as a month,” Atkins said. “We’ve got a lot of people working on a lot of different things.”

POCATELLO — A police officer and
emergency dispatcher are being credited with saving the life of a man
who nearly died early Saturday morning from a massive heart attack.
Patrolman
Tyler Anderson and dispatcher Diana Rich, both members of the Pocatello
Police Department, are being called heroes for their actions.
The situation began to unfold when Rich answered a 911 phone call to the Police Department around 2:20 a.m. Saturday. A woman was on the other end of the phone reporting that she had just found her 65-year-old husband unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse in a chair in the couple’s living room.
“I told her to start CPR,” said Rich, who’s been with the Police
Department for the past seven years. “I told her to do whatever she
could to pull him off the chair and lay him flat on his back. Then I
walked her through the CPR instructions that we have.”

At least one law enforcement agency is using the devices as body cameras, and more could follow

Calls for greater police accountability and for protecting officers from false accusations have made body cameras must-have equipment for law enforcement agencies. Because Axon Enterprise(NASDAQ:AAXN) had already saturated the stun gun market with its Taser weapons, it moved into the body cam field as a means of extending growth opportunities, and has now come to dominate it as well.
Yet the announcement that one Colorado sheriff’s department is testing a different kind of body cam system has the potential to completely upend Axon’s dominance.

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce and
the
U.S. Department of Transportation announced more than $109 million in grants to 34 states and
two
tribal nations as part of the 911
Grant Program, which will help
911 call centers upgrade to Next Generation 911 (NG911)
capabilities.
The funding will power basic improvements such as providing digital and IP network
capabilities to 911
emergency call centers and
will assist implementation of advanced mapping systems that will make it easier to
identify a 911 caller’s location.
NG911 will help 911 call centers manage call overload, as call-takers will be able to transfer
calls, messages and data
between public safety answering
points (PSAPs) that are interconnected to the IP network.
The
911 Grant Program also provides
funding for
training costs directly related to NG911 implementation.
Grants were available
to states, territories, tribal nations and
the
District of Columbia, provided that they successfully submitted a state 911 plan
and project budget, designated a 911
coordinator, and certified that they did not use funds designated for 911 systems for other purposes in the past 180 days.
The 911
Grant Program is jointly administered by the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information
Administration (NTIA) and the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Cost Sharing
Requirement
The 911 Grant Program
requires cost sharing, also known as a matching funds requirement. The federal
share of the total cost of any activity carried out under the Grant Program may
not exceed 60% of the eligible cost of carrying out grant activities.

ERSAILLES, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP) in
Versailles is accepting applications for a regional dispatcher position
at the Versailles Post to help staff its Regional Dispatch Center.
Successful applicants must be able to receive, record, disseminate, and
