MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — On Thursday morning, as the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda flooded Greater Houston, the Montgomery County Hospital District Dispatch Center was slammed with calls.

Woman’s death prompts changes to BC’s 911 system

Chelsea Brent remembers her mother as someone who always lived her best life, despite her struggles.

“She was well known downtown, everyone said hi to her,” Brent recalled, adding many people in her Downtown Eastside neighbourhood knew Tracey Gundersen as “Mom.”

The 56-year-old died last November, after calling 911 to report she was bleeding profusely. Her death and the emergency response surrounding it were the focus of an external investigation ordered by the health ministry, after Brent wrote letters and met with the minister.

Rhinelander City Council agrees to give Oneida Co. $16,5000 for dispatch center improvements

RHINELANDER (WAOW)–The Rhinelander City Council approved a resolution on Monday that would give Oneida County $16,500 for improvements at the county dispatch center.

That money will go towards a station where a dispatcher works answering 911 calls.

Officials say the money helps the sheriff’s office better serve the people in the county.

“It’s good to work with the city and the county and come up with ideas for public safety that work for the best interest of the people that we serve,” said chief deputy Daniel Hess with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

BROOKHAVEN ,Ga. (CBS46) — A woman’s desperate attempt at getting help, and a 911 dispatcher’s quick-thinking helped police end a domestic incident at a Brookhaven apartment complex over the summer.

In the early morning hours of August 28 a 911 dispatcher began receiving text messages in Spanish, it was then the dispatcher quickly sprang into to action by using a translator to decipher what was being said. Through the translations, the dispatcher was able to determine a female victim was being held against her will by a man with a gun.
