Days after a Sarnia police dispatcher called prolonged wait times for non-emergency calls “embarrassing”
and appealed for the city to hire more officers, police chief Norm
Hansen says Sarnia residents should not be worried about sub-par
service.
It is “not common” for Sarnia residents to wait more than
two hours for police to respond to non-emergency calls, Hansen said,
speaking to the concerns of 18-year veteran dispatcher Courtney
Thornton, who went before the police board Thursday.
All calls are
given a priority and those deemed urgent are addressed right away,
Hansen added, such as in-progress break-ins or assaults.
“If there’s an emergency Sarnia police always respond….

EDINBURG (KGBT) — When someone calls
911 they are often in distress and may have difficulty describing what
is happening around them, but the Edinburg Police Department is hoping
to change that by using new technology that makes it easier for
dispatchers to communicate.
“Caller will call the [Edinburg]
police department regarding something going on and we will send them a
link. It’s very simple, you just activate the link, and start the video
and then you can point the camera at the incident,” said Edinburg Chief
of Police Cesar Torres. “We had few incidents already where it’s been
used, and we were happy.”
Dispatchers will text a link to the phone number calling 911 within the Edinburg dispatch coverage area. Then, the caller can…..

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan is responding to concerns from the head of
the city’s police union about staffing levels in the 911 communications
center.
Greg McGee has said the city currently has only 26 dispatchers, with four more in training.
The mayor says while it is something to be concerned about, there are more than 170 city residents who have applied for the job.
She says she supports the requirement that a dispatcher has to live
in the city, but a couple of Common Council members are on the record as
saying they may put forth legislation to deal with that at some point.

While operations of the Webster County 911 dispatch center were being handed over to New Jersey-based IXP, there was about a two-week period where there was an overlap in payments, according to Webster County Chief Deputy Rod Strait, the chairman of the Webster County Telecommunications Board.
And now the board, which met on Thursday, is trying to determine how to best handle the overlap.
According to Bowser and Richman LLP, certified public accountants and
consultants, the board outsourced its payroll in July with the hire of
IXP in the amount of $46,666.67.
Daniel Posluszny, the regional manager for IXP who is overseeing the Webster County dispatch operations, said that payment is…
