Act In Congress Could Change Status Of 9-1-1 Dispatchers Nationwide (CO)

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- It’s something most of us learn at an early age: call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. The federal government would like to do more to recognize the value in that by changing the status of those who answer the 9-1-1 call.

The ‘9-1-1 Saves Act’ would upgrade the classification of dispatchers nationwide to “first responders ”. Currently, dispatchers fall under the classification of “administrative and support workers.”

Jefferson Parish Fire Dispatchers File Gender Discrimination Suit (LA)

On Monday, three female fire dispatchers working for the Jefferson Parish East Bank Consolidated Fire Protection Bureau filed suit claiming an ongoing practice of gender discrimination and retaliation at the Jefferson Parish Fire Protection Bureau’s Emergency Communications Division.
