Once again, Flathead County voters are being asked to support a ballot measure that will tax property owners to pay for ongoing equipment upgrades at the Flathead Emergency Communications Center known as the 911 center. It’s the third such proposal in six years, and obviously the county commissioners are hoping the third time’s a charm.
The proposal to be placed on the Nov. 3 ballot would raise just over $3.5 million annually and cost the owner of a $300,000 home around $53 a year. The commissioners have acknowledged this could be a tough sell amid a pandemic… READ MORE

Making 911 calls over something that is not an emergency in the United States of America, but the outcome was different for a senior citizen who called 911 to complain that her refrigerator had broken down.
Cheryl Nanartonis of Jensen Beach, Florida, was worried would go bad after her refrigerator broke down and she didn’t have any money to fix it. She called the emergency line and the dispatcher sent deputies to her home because they “believed she was in crisis”… READ MORE

DODGE COUNTY, Wisc., (SPECTRUM NEWS) – Another Wisconsin county is joining a program that helps dispatchers respond faster to emergencies.
It may be surprising to know that if you call 911 from a cell phone, dispatchers don’t get a specific location.

Imagine being able to text 911 when you need help or sending a video to 911 that shows how a car accident happened. Both would be possible with Next Generation 911 (NG911). Today, most of the 911 systems in use were built using analog systems rather than digital technology. These analog systems use copper-based wire and do not allow all types of data to be transmitted. Public Safety Answering Points, more commonly known as 911 call centers, would need to be upgraded to digital or Internet (IP) based 911 systems to allow more types of data to be transmitted and make other improvements… READ MORE
