CPR over the phone: Proposed legislation would require teleCPR training for dispatchers (WY)

SHERIDAN — A bill sponsored by the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Transportation, Highways and Military Affair Committee would require telecommunicator cardiopulmonary resuscitation — or teleCPR — training for Wyoming dispatchers. 

If passed, the new training regimen would have to be approved by Wyoming’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission by 2023, POST officials said at a meeting Thursday.

Final Draft approved for the 911 Telecommunicator Pension Benefits Workgroup (MN)

Today the 911 Telecommunicators Pension Benefits workgroup met, made final changes and approved the Report to be given to the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement.

Sadly the only 2 voting Corrections Officer’s, Heidi Pauman representing PERA Correctional Plan members and Dan Gorman representing State CO’s were NOT in attendance.

There was no consensus on improving the Dispatch pension. The line recommending not adding dispatch to the PERA Correctional plan was scratched, but no line was added to recommend it either… READ MORE

City of Helena 9-1-1 Center seeing issues with calling back, transferring some calls (MT)

HELENA, Mont. – The City of Helena 9-1-1 Center is reporting they are having problems with Verizon customers calling in.

Verizon customers can call 9-1-1 and the non-emergency number, however, the center is having troubles with calling back and transferring callers.

Emergency dispatchers needed in Dauphin County (PA)

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Struggling with ongoing staffing shortages, Dauphin County emergency response officials are calling for residents to apply to be 911 emergency dispatchers – and as soon as possible. 

According to Jeffery Enders, Dauphin County’s director of public safety, 13 positions are open out of 53 total telecommunicator roles. The deficit is causing working dispatchers to take on excessive overtime. “We’re down that 20 to 30% in numbers, which is requiring our dispatchers to work as many as 20 to 50 to 80 hours of overtime every two weeks,” said Enders. “It is really impactful and it weighs on them heavily everyday, but I can say here in Dauphin County we’re proud of our people they continue to put forth for the protection of the citizens of Dauphin County… READ MORE
