At 2:23 a.m. on Jan. 16 of this year, LEAD Telecommunicator at Bureau Emergency Communications, Dawn Porter, received a cellular 911 call that displayed zero information in the organization’s system.

TOLEDO, Ohio — It’s been four months since Lucas County’s eight regional 911 call centers were consolidated into one central hub at the 911 Regional Council of Governments in Central Toledo.
So far, Sylvania’s director of public safety says the new system is experiencing some growing pains. However, both city leaders and county 911 officials say they’re working together to improve operations.

A recently introduced Kentucky House bill would fund the state’s implementation of a simplified suicide prevention hotline through a tax on mobile phones.
Kentucky’s legislation proposes a 70-cent mobile phone tax on all monthly mobile phone bills, phone cards, additional minutes and the sale and recharging of prepaid phones, starting Jan. 1. The structure is similar to taxes taken out for 9-1-1 services.

When people think about dispatchers, they often only think of them as the person who will get first responders on the scene of whatever their situation is at the moment. they don’t realize that these men and women are really the first responders to any crisis and serve as the eyes and ears of almost every emergency.

CHARLES TOWN — The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce recently held its public service recognition ceremony. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was held virtually via a video posted on the chamber’s YouTube page.
