February 23, 2022 – Following the recent announcements concerning spectrum from the Federal Communication Commission, agency chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel revealed Tuesday a proposal to use proceeds from upcoming spectrum auctions to update the national 9-1-1 system, according to an FCC press release.
The next generation 9-1-1 system allows callers to send emergency responders photos, videos and text messages, instead of just calls. For example, these upgrades would include sharing pictures and videos of the emergency during the emergency and sharing medical records instantaneously… READ MORE

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) — What would you do if you were placed on hold when you called 911 during an emergency?
Waukesha County 911 operators are trying to make sure that doesn’t happen in the community they serve, as national employment struggles continue to have an impact locally. That could mean you have to wait longer for help.
Dan Szpek, Waukesha County 911 telecommunicator, said when they’re short-staffed like they are now, they will answer your call ASAP, but there will be times when there is a wait.
“The same way a hospital might triage injuries, someone with a rolled ankle is going to sit in the ER longer than someone with difficulty breathing,” said Szpek… READ MORE

In efforts to advance how they respond to emergencies on island, the E-911 Center is undergoing some changes. The E-911 Center is anticipating to move from its secure location at Civil Defense by the end of 2022 to a more public location. We were asked not to disclose the whereabouts at this time however, public information officer for the Guam Fire Department, Kevin Reilly, believes the move is for good reason.
“There are several issues that we had, the biggest one being space. As we continue to grow, as the fire department continues to grow we’re having a lot more calls then we were before. Therefore we bumped up our system from 8 consoles to 10,” he explained… READ MORE

CUMBERLAND, Md — If one function stands out as the hinge pin for the entire emergency services system in Allegany County, it would be the county’s 911 Joint Communications Center.
“When you dial 911, that is the worst day of your life,” according to James Pyles, director of the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.
Pyles said the county 911 Center receives over 1,000 911 calls and over 2,000 administrative calls each week. In addition to real-time emergency dispatch services, the center provides coordination and technical support to all radios for every volunteer fire department in Allegany County and all EMS locations, including the Cumberland Fire Department, the Cumberland Police Department, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Frostburg City Police Department, Luke Police Department and Lonaconing Police Department… READ MORE
