A new 9-1-1 for mental health is on the way

Come July, Americans experiencing a mental health crisis can press three digits on their phones, “9-8-8,” and reach the suicide prevention hotline. 

The vision: The new, easy-to-use number is being billed as the “911” for mental health care. West Plains Police Department recognizes dispatcher during Women’s History Month (MO)

To help celebrate Women’s History Month in March, the West Plains Police Department recognized Paula, who has worked at the department for 15 years and is currently a dispatcher.

New texting service improves 911 dispatchers’ connection to callers (OH)

A person calling 911 during an emergency may be too excited and may not be clear when talking to a dispatcher about where to send help. Or they may just need some reassurance that help is on the way.

Recently, the Warren County Communications Center launched a text messaging service to keep callers updated on the status of their emergency and a number to call for followup or other information.
