Former PA 911 dispatcher files lawsuit, alleges racial, sexual harassment

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. — A former Cambria County 911 dispatcher is suing the county, alleging racial and sexual harassment.

The civil suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania by Christy L. Janciga, who is white and the mother of a biracial child.

She was employed in the Cambria County Department of Emergency Services from Dec. 2, 2019, until April 1, 2020, when she was discharged.

House OKs Ackerman legislation that would require 911 system to have over-the-phone CPR operators on staff (RI)

STATE HOUSE — The House of Representatives today approved legislation introduced by Rep. Mia Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln) that would improve over-the-phone CPR instructions by requiring the 911 system to certify and staff individuals trained in telecommunicator CPR.

Ventura County first responders now able to receive 9-1-1 text messages (CA)

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. – First responder agencies throughout Ventura County are now able to receive 911 text messages in the event of an emergency. The purpose of this function is to allow hearing and speech-impaired members of the community, as well as those in a situation where it is too dangerous to call 911, to contact emergency personnel for help.

Those situations include when a crime is in progress, the caller is facing domestic abuse, the caller is injured and cannot speak or hear, as well as other scenarios.

Durham community concerned about safety as 911 operator shortage continues (NC)

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Delbert Jarmon called 911 on Sunday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. after he saw a man shooting at a vehicle driving through the intersection of Liberty Street and Alston Avenue in east Durham.

“You know the gunfire sounded kind of like firecrackers, you know? Like pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,” Jarmon said. “It happened so fast, and I froze for a minute. Then I said, ‘Oh my God I’ve got to call 911.’”
