Hanover moves its dispatching to regional center in Duxbury (MA)

HANOVER — After two years of planning, state officials threw the switch and sent all 911 calls from the Hanover police department to the regional dispatch center in Duxbury.

Thirty minutes later, on June 30, the Hanover Fire Department was answering multiple calls.

“They didn’t miss a beat,” Regional Old Colony Communications Center Director Mike Mahoney said. “If we hadn’t told anyone, no one would be the wiser.”

16 test positive for COVID-19 at Orlando 911 Communication Center (FL)

ORLANDO, Fla. – The city of Orlando 911 Communication Center is experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19 after 16 employees tested positive for the virus, city officials confirmed.

City officials said those who tested positive are currently self-isolating and six employees are in quarantine due to possible exposure or are experiencing symptoms.

Local Gov’t Commission to consider Camden’s request to borrow $4.6M (NC)

RALEIGH — Camden County’s request to borrow $4.6 million to build its new 11,000-square-foot library will be among the items the N.C. Local Government Commission considers for approval at its meeting Tuesday.

The commission will be considering applications from approximately 10 North Carolina towns and counties seeking the agency’s approval to finance the construction of government buildings.

9-1-1 pocket dial? No need to be embarrassed, stay on the line (CA)

The North Bay Police Service has mounted a social media campaign aimed at educating the public about the proper usage of the 9-1-1 service. In recent weeks, the focus of the public service announcements from NBPS has been on what to do if you mistakenly dial 9-1-1.

The message: Don’t hang up, stay on the line and speak with the dispatcher so they know it was an accidental call to the service.

NENA releases i3 standard update, seeks potentially critical ANSI approval

National Emergency Number Association (NENA) board members yesterday released the latest version of the i3 standard for next-generation 911 (NG911) infrastructure, which will be submitted to the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) for approval that could resolve one point of contention in NG911 funding proposals.
