Clay County leaders propose landline fees increase (WV)

CLAY COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Clay County leaders said they desperately need a new radio system for their 911 center.

County leaders are trying to get funding to improve that system — all to make sure the county’s residents are as safe as possible when handling life-or-death situations.

Becky Pritt, the emergency management director in Clay County, said sometimes dispatchers and first responders have to repeat themselves more than five times — or even leave scenes to get cell phone service to call the dispatch center…

Parker County Dispatch Telecommunicator Ricky Huff was recently recognized with two awards for Telecommunicator of the Year for his quick actions and ability to remain calm during a 911 active shooter call.

Huff received the North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Telecommunicator of the Year Award along with the State Telecommunicator of the Year Award from the National Emergency Number Association, and was presented by Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier…

The Ontario County Office of Sheriff 9-1-1 dispatchers (aka telecommunicators) truly are the vital link between those needing emergency assistance after calling 9-1-1 and the responders in the field.

We rely on these highly trained communication professionals to remain calm while performing numerous highly stressful tasks at the same time. At any given moment, a phone call may be received requiring them to immediately dispatch officers to a domestic situation while trying to tell a crying victim on the phone to remain calm and get to a safe location…

Flathead 911 center struggles with hiring, retention (MT)

Flathead County’s 911 dispatch center struggled to hire and retain employees during the first quarter of 2021 as call volumes continued to surge, but the center’s director said the number of vacant positions is shrinking and the turnover has not disrupted emergency services.

Liz Brooks, director of the Flathead Emergency Communications Center, said the center has not been immune from the pandemic-related labor and housing shortages affecting businesses throughout the valley — and that’s on top of the usual difficulties of recruiting for such high-stress jobs…

911 call center INDigital conversion nearly complete (IL)

MACOMB — During Tuesday’s brief meeting, 911 director Eric Lenardt told the McDonough County-Schuyler County Emergency Telephone Service Board the dispatch center’s conversion to INDigital is nearly complete.

Lenardt said he’d had the 911 digital service tested to see if everything worked correctly. He said with the carriers who converted their 911 services to digital, the phone barely rings at the dispatch center before it is picked up. He said the digital system helped dispatchers provide the assistance callers needed quickly…
