Council supports KPD scanner encryption (HI)

LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i County Council voiced support for the Kaua‘i Police Department’s continued efforts to encrypt dispatch communications.

KPD Chief Todd Raybuck said that it’s “pretty common knowledge where our officers are assigned and how many officers we have on the road.”

“A person could easily deduce the level of availability of our officers by listening to the scanners and then take advantage of the lack of resources to respond to commit crimes,” Raybuck said…

HUMBOLDT, Calif. — Humboldt County announced Thursday a new project to improve their public safety radio system as they said communication is critical during an emergency and the project is long overdue.

The project focuses on the system linking first responders and other agencies, the county said.

While work has already begun on radio towers in the outlying parts of the county, a significant portion of the project occurred Wednesday evening, when crews installed three microwave drum receivers, two antennas and other equipment atop the Courthouse…

SAN RAMON, CA — Construction is now underway on the San Ramon Public Safety Complex.

It kicked off with a recent groundbreaking ceremony at 2401 Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon, where the complex will be located.

The 9,800-square-foot building will house the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District administration office, San Ramon Police Department, emergency operations center and 911 communications center. Plans for the building call for a police gym, bunks and other spaces to support staff…

Newton County breaks ground on tower for incoming E-911 radio system (GA)

OXFORD, Ga. — Next summer, public safety radio dead spots across Newton County will be no more.

County officials and first responders gathered outside Newton County Fire Station No. 9, located at 176 Mt. Zion Road in Oxford, on Thursday to break ground on the construction of the first of three towers that will help take the county’s public safety communications system to new heights.

In June 2020, the Newton County Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Motorola for a new emergency radio system. Despite an initial estimate of $3.6 million, the radio system costs upwards of $14 million to install, according to County Manager Lloyd Kerr, but is being paid for, in part, by SPLOST funding…
