McMinn County renews 911 dispatch contract (TN)

The McMinn County Commission has voted unanimously to renew its contract with McMinn County E-911.

At last Wednesday’s meeting, the commission voted in favor of extending its emergency dispatch services contract for three years with the McMinn County Emergency Communications District. The previous five-year contract expired on July 1.

According to the county resolution, “McMinn County E-911 is increasing the dispatcher salary line item of its budget to help mitigate the issue of losing experienced, high-quality dispatchers.”

“The governments that pay in have not been covering the salaries and they still don’t cover the salaries (with this new contract),” explained McMinn County Mayor John Gentry…

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Now in Leon County, 911 is a call, and a text away.

Emergency services can now be contacted through text message, with the service starting earlier this week.

You have to text emergency services in proper English, with no emoji’s and as of right now, pictures and videos can’t be picked up by dispatchers.

Leon County says they’re happy to introduce this service, giving people another way to contact 911 if they can’t make a phone call…

New N. Carolina emergency response director appointed

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A senior official in North Carolina’s emergency management department has been tapped to succeed his retiring director.

Department of Public Safety Secretary Erik Hooks has appointed William Ray as the state’s new director of emergency management, the agency said in a news release.

Ray currently serves as the chief of staff, a leadership role, at North Carolina Emergency Management. He was previously an assistant director and has also served in several emergency response roles at the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, in local government and in the private sector…

This recruitment will establish an eligible list for vacancies in the Police Department.  Depending on qualifications and experience, the salary offered to the selected candidates may be above the minimum salary for this position.  Employees may progress through the full salary range, subject to their successful performance and annual budget approval. 

A Police Dispatcher – Lateral performs most of the duties of a Police Dispatcher based on previous dispatching experience.  An incumbent in this class learns to perform the full scope of duties of a Mesa Police Dispatcher through a structured on-the-job training program tailored to each individual’s experience, or lack of, in the areas of answering 911 calls and dispatching police services.  Incumbents are trained according to Mesa Police Department policies and operating procedures…

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – Holiday weekends bring more calls to 911 dispatch centers, and many of them are for non-emergencies.

“Don’t call 911 just because your neighbors are out setting fireworks off,” said Boyd County 911 Director Matt Saunders.

He says these calls take up extra time for dispatchers, and while they will relay the information to where it needs to, he asks people with non-emergency problems to directly contact the police or other offices that could help…
