Anoka County 911 dispatchers answer calls in the basement of the Government Center in downtown Anoka. With its low ceilings, the windowless room is noisy. Though more space is needed, there’s none to be had.
But that’s all about to change.
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Our Wright-Patterson Air Force Base dispatchers are the first line of response when someone calls 911 with an emergency. Critical to mission success, their responsibility is to relay vital information quickly and clearly in order to provide the right kind of assistance without delay.
April 11, 2023 – National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week occurs every year on the second full week of April as a time to recognize and thank telecommunications personnel in the public safety communications field. This year the week runs from April 9-15, and Santa Fe College takes time out to honor our “behind-the-scenes heroes.”
The Oregon Department of Emergency Management recognizes April 9th through 15th as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

This week, sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated annually, honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world’s citizens.
