SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Following a statewide 911 call service outage, 911 services in South Dakota have been restored.
At about 6:58 p.m., there was a significant 911 outage that lasted until 9:10 p.m.
At 10:14 p.m., there was an additional outage that lasted until 1:56 a.m.
HOT SPRINGS — The city of Hot Springs plans to forfeit close to $500,000 a year instead of combining its 911 operations with Garland County’s, telling the Hot Springs Board of Directors last month that public safety won’t be served by consolidation.
In a new letter to Oakland, the state agency said it would not take further action. If 911 times do not continue to improve, OPD may be subject to referral to the Attorney General.
After July 26, Oakland is expected to lose state funding for its emergency communications center and be forced to reroute all its 911 calls through another agency’s calling center.

In the latest development regarding who is responsible for operating the countywide public safety communications system, Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti has asked Lorain County Common Pleas Court to appoint an attorney to represent him in the matter as he continues to battle the county commissioners who believe they have authority over the system.
