BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield police announced its “Dispatcher of the Year” for 2020 is Lance Powell, who has served a total of almost 27 years in the department’s communications center.
A Dispatch Academy instructor, Powell is recognized for his ability in helping trainees through the last phases of training, earning him the nickname “The Closer,” police said. He taught two classes in 2020 on interpersonal skills and domestic violence.

NIST said Monday that the prototype is intended to help older Land Mobile Radio towers and handsets benefit from wireless Long-Term Evolution (LTE) capabilities including voice, video, text, instant messaging and other data-related features.
The agency noted that the effort is meant to take advantage of LTE-based, mission-critical “push to talk” capabilities while addressing challenges in transition costs. The LTE element s also meant to support key aspects in public safety communications including speaker identification, clear audio, emergency calling and high reliability and availability, according to NIST…

Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky State Police are acknowledging National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, that runs through April 17.
“Often called the ‘heroes behind the headsets,’ KSP telecommunicators provide a lifeline to both citizens in need and troopers in the field,” Beshear said. “They serve as an unseen but vital link in keeping law enforcement officers and Kentuckians safe at all times, day or night.”
Kentucky State Police employs 185 telecommunicators at 16 posts…
