BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – Holiday weekends bring more calls to 911 dispatch centers, and many of them are for non-emergencies.
“Don’t call 911 just because your neighbors are out setting fireworks off,” said Boyd County 911 Director Matt Saunders.
He says these calls take up extra time for dispatchers, and while they will relay the information to where it needs to, he asks people with non-emergency problems to directly contact the police or other offices that could help…

LACEY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey police dispatcher was charged with stealing $4,690 from a volunteer emergency medical services organization, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
According to Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, 33-year-old Matthew Bender used his access to the Lanoka Harbor Emergency Medical Services’ PayPal account to move the money into his personal account.

A power outage knocked Houston’s 911 system offline for several hours Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The incident began when the Houston Emergency Center lost power mid-day Saturday, Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña said. Years ago, I worked as a consultant with a department that was having some serious conflicts between line firefighters and dispatchers. Because I was hired to work primarily with uniformed firefighters, I mostly heard their side of things. They told stories about dispatch errors and categorized dispatchers as lazy or incompetent.
