If you call 911 to report a stolen package in Baltimore, dispatchers will soon ask you to do it over the phone or online, instead of sending a police officer to respond in person.

If you report someone having a behavioral health crisis, a social worker will be dispatched instead of the cops. Non-emergency calls and minor car accidents will trigger similar non-police responses.

The goal is to make the Baltimore Police Department more efficient amid persistent staffing shortages and rising gun violence, according to city leaders…

Laconia state school agreement helps state’s plan for new $10M E911 center (NH)

LACONIA – A new $10 million emergency 9-1-1 facility may be built in Laconia on state land after the Executive Council and the City of Laconia came to an agreement about various parcels around the former Laconia State School property, Wednesday.

Commissioner of Safety Robert Quinn said the department has been able to identify a piece of land, a 10-acre hayfield at the corner of Meredith Center Road and Lane Road in Laconia and across the street from the Robbie Mills Sports Complex as the most suitable spot to relocate the agency’s emergency call needs and that for the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid dispatch center. Both are currently housed in the Dwinell Building at the former state school property, which is up for sale…

Clark County 911 dispatchers tackle difficult job — and they are hiring (WA)

Several of Clark County’s 911 dispatchers never imagined they’d be the ones answering the phones when someone calls about an emergency.

One said she was working at a bank when she decided to apply at the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency’s dispatch center. Another was at a dental office, and another was working toward medical school.

They applied at the agency for the challenge, the fast pace, and a schedule of four days on and four days off…

Putting FirstNet to the test for remote 9-1-1 operations

One thing the 9-1-1 community learned from the pandemic was the need to plan for alternate ways to work. Rather than be tied to workstations at fixed locations, 9-1-1 telecommunicators need flexibility to remotely take, dispatch, and supervise calls. In December 2021, Maryland telecommunicators put FirstNet to the test, demonstrating the network’s connectivity and reliability during remote operations.

A staffing shortage at the Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center (MECC) has reached an ’emergency’ level, according to city officials.

Jodi Hodne, the assistant director for the city’s 911 call center, told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the MECC is facing a staffing shortage that reaches an ’emergency’ level as the agency heads into the high-call-volume summer months.
