Governor Roy Cooper spoke at the 911 Board Public Safety Answering Points Manager’s Meeting today in Greensboro to thank emergency services personnel for their work to keep North Carolina communities safe and healthy.

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a $25 million contract for the construction of a dispatch facility in Templeton.
Santa Maria-based Diani Building Corporation will construct the new dispatch center at 356 N. Main Street in Templeton. The 17,000 square-foot facility will unite the dispatch units of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department, the latter of which is operated by Cal Fire.

While many people in Douglas County were shifting to remote work early on in the coronavirus pandemic, Douglas County Emergency Communications was staying put.
The department’s director, Tony Foster, said there wasn’t a choice. The department handles 911 dispatch services for the entire county, minus the University of Kansas, from the Emergency Communication Center in the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center in downtown Lawrence. Without dispatchers in the center, directing first responders would have been impossible — and would’ve had dire consequences.

Five new 9-1-1 emergency call boxes will be installed at Fort Nelson, Summit Lake, Toad River, Liard Hot Springs, and Fireside
As an emergency emergency telephone service, the call boxes will provide access to 9-1-1 service in remote areas without cell service, the ministry said.

MANISTEE COUNTY — In July, Manistee County’s 911 board unanimously voted to sever 911 Director Jim Espvik’s work agreement effective immediately.
Espvik had been the 911 director for 22 years and worked with central dispatch overall for 26 years.
