PROVIDENCE — A former dispatcher for the Central Falls Police
Department is alleging rampant sexual harassment and mistreatment by
officers in a lawsuit in federal court.
In the suit filed Tuesday
in U.S. District Court, Kelly Baxter tells of being subjected to crude
sexual commentary, unwelcome overtures, hostile work conditions and
retaliation in response to complaints.
Baxter named as defendants
Mayor James Diossa, Finance Director Cynthia DeJesus, Police Chief
Daniel J. Barzykowski, Detective Omar Ospina and Sgt. Joseph D. Tougas
in their official and individual capacities. Her allegations include sex
discrimination and harassment; civil rights violations; intentional
infliction of emotional distress; and violations of fair employment
practices.

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) –
The City of Nome is facing the threat of a lawsuit from the American
Civil Liberties Union following what the latter is calling systemic and
decades-long indifference toward Alaska Native women, as exemplified in a
2017 case of sexual assault that went ignored by the victim’s
colleagues in public safety.
Clarice Hardy was working as a police dispatcher in March
of 2017 when she says she was raped in her home. Along with video
evidence, she filed a complaint with the Nome Police Department, which
failed to investigate her claims. Her complaint documenting an act of
sexual violence never even received a case number and the video evidence
from Snapchat was automatically erased after 30 days, according to the
ACLU.

BRISTOL, Tenn. — A dispatcher with the
Bristol Tennessee Police Department received an award for taking
measures which helped save the life of woman who had tried to hang
herself.
Jessica Donihe, who has been with the department for four
years, was honored during the annual First Responder Recognition Awards
in Nashville on September 11. The award stems from an emergency call
she answered in March 2018 and her persistent efforts to dispatch help.

When Gary Granger saw four teenagers kicking and beating a homeless man in downtown Portland on Aug. 31, he called the cops.
It was almost midnight on a Saturday, and Granger, 60, was walking
downtown, photographing nests of crows. He saw the four teenage boys
assaulting the homeless man at the corner of Southwest 1st Avenue and
Morrison Street, one block from where he stood. He photographed the
attack as he called 911.
