HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We start tonight with word of major upgrades coming to the Luzerne County 911 Center.
Some say long-overdue upgrades. The current radio system which has caused safety concerns for years will be replaced. For 911 dispatcher Lynette Starnes, the most chilling calls are the ones that come in from locations she can’t track.
“A stabbing, a homicide, a medical aid, we’re trained to get through that stuff,” she said. “But if I don’t know where you’re at, we can’t help you, and that is my personal biggest stress.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post has announced its 2019 trooper and dispatcher of the year.
Trooper John Lamm has been named the 2019 trooper of the year, and Brooke Boley has been named 2019 dispatcher of the year.
Trooper Lamm was selected in recognition of outstanding service during 2019 at the Canfield Post.

Only 8% of Americans survive cardiac arrest outside a hospital, but that percentage could increase significantly if bystanders recognize cardiac arrest and perform simple lifesaving tasks, a UVA Health physician says.
UVA emergency medicine physician William J. Brady, MD, co-authored an article in the New England Journal of Medicine that highlights a few steps anyone without extensive medical training can do to help.

AUSTIN, Texas (KCBD) – Gov. Greg Abbott has re-appointed Amherst Mayor Clinton Sawyer to the Commission on State Emergency Communications. This puts him in charge of administering the state 9-1-1 service and poison control programs.
Sawyer is both the mayor of Amherst and an agent for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, according to the Governor’s Office. Along with those positions, he also serves as a board member for the South Plains Association of Governments.

PORTLAND, Maine — A 911 call that prompted a two-day search for a sailboat off Maine was made by a sailor who was cold and seasick less than 24 hours after heading to sea, Coast Guard officials said.
The crew of the 40-foot “Dove” eventually reported that all was fine as the sailboat traveled off New York’s Long Island on Nov. 18. A day later, the three crew members abandoned the sailboat after it became disabled off Virginia. They were rescued by a cargo ship…
