Jan. 30: Groundbreaking ceremony for the Currituck Public Safety Center (NC)

The Public Safety Center is targeted for completion in late 2020 with an approximate project budget of $18 million.  It will house the Currituck County departments of Sheriff, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, and 911 Communications. The building will also include multi-functional space to be used as the county’s Emergency Operations Center when necessary.  In addition, the facility will provide offices for N.C. Dispatchers looking to receive first responders status (CA)

On January 22, a new bill was announced at a press conference by a group of public safety dispatchers from across California. Assembly Bill 1945 (AB 1945), which has been championed by Assemblymember Rudy Salas, will reclassify and recognize the efforts of public safety dispatchers as first responders. The work that public safety dispatchers provide to varying agencies is important to the ability for those agencies to invoke their respected skills. Currently, the United States government defines dispatchers as fulfilling an “administrative” vocation.

Local dispatcher successfully talks family through childbirth on Highway 54 (MO)

AUDRAIN COUNTY — A dispatcher was praised in a post on the Audrain County E-911 Joint Communications Facebook page for successfully assisting a woman give a live childbirth on Highway 54.

Man Is Arrested After Using 911 To Hit On The Dispatchers (WI)

Benjamin Duddles in Wisconsin is an idiot. Duddles allegedly called 911 multiple times to solicit the female dispatchers. Last week, Duddles called the police’s line four times in 37 minutes to hit on the dispatchers. In one of the calls, he told a female dispatcher, quote, “It would be super duper cool if we could spend some quality time together.” On another call, he asked a male dispatcher, quote, “Do you wanna, you know, fool around?”…
