The vision for a Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (FirstNet) is rooted in the interoperability challenges that have faced our nation’s first responders for decades. The 9/11 attacks served as a catalyst for recommendations from the 9/11 Commission for interoperability across networks that transcend individual agencies.
Congressional action led to the development of the organization that I lead, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority), that is charged by federal law to ensure the building, deployment, operation, and improvement of the nationwide public safety broadband network in consultation with public safety. PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WDVM) — Prince William County public safety officials have announced a new app that will allow individuals to provide information to 9-1-1 operators.
The service, called “smart 9-1-1”, allows residents to make a free account, where they can contribute relevant information to help first responders during an emergency.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) recommended BSO’s Regional Communications for reaccreditation. BSO’s Regional Communications is the largest CALEA accredited communications center under the Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program. LEBANON, Pa. (WHTM) — A new memorial is being planned in Lebanon County to honor first responders currently serving and those who died in the line of duty.
It will be built in conjunction with the new Lebanon County 911 communications center.

HOLBROOK — Director Steve Hooke and the staff at the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center (HRECC) would like to educate residents about accidental 911 calls and what residents should do if they accidentally call 911 or without knowing.
The HRECC reports a drastic increase recently in accidental 911 calls, in which individuals have either hung up the phone prior to the call being received by the public safety answering point (PSAP) or once the telecommunicator has answered the call. These calls often originate from smart devices, smart watches or tablets.

The Chillicothe Police Department will have a new 911 Dispatcher beginning in early November. The Chillicothe City Council approved hiring Amanda Floyd as a Full-Time Dispatcher in their executive session Monday.
Floyd was hired to replace a dispatcher that recently left the department. he hiring brings the Chillicothe Police Department dispatch staff to full strength, with a total of 8 dispatchers handling calls for the Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Sheriff’s departments…
