The Jones County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center was dedicated last week to the woman whose vision made it possible.
The family of JCSO former Chief Deputy Barbara Burnette joined officers and staff members of the JCSO in dedicating the center April 21. The center dedication was done in conjunction with the dedication of the department’s memorial wall, with Burnette one of the five officers honored on that wall.

Jessica Kelly has been named Telecommunicator of the Year for the state of Iowa after going above and beyond her duties as a head dispatcher for the Manchester Police Department in helping a mother find her abducted daughter.
Kelly’s search for the abductor and the lost girl took her two hours while also fielding other calls that came in, as the station only has one dispatcher on duty at a time.
Kelly has worked as a dispatcher for 15 years, beginning her career as a dispatcher and jailer in Clayton County. She and her family moved to Manchester in 2014 so she could take a job in the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office… READ MORE

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — In 2022, 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers will officially be considered first responders in the state of Alabama.
On April 18, Governor Ivey signed into law HB414. The law will go into effect July 1, 2022.

Kern County supervisors unanimously named Samuel Lux interim county Public Works director during a meeting on Tuesday.
Lux will replace outgoing director Craig Pope, who is retiring after more than 40 years of service with the county.
Lux started as an engineer with the county in 2011. He has served as assistant director of the department for the past four years.
“The board looks forward to working with Mr. Lux as he serves in this critical role and wishes Mr. Pope the best as he enters retirement,” the county wrote in a summary of Tuesday’s meeting… READ MORE

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A man who called 911 more than 100 times was arrested in Eugene for misusing the emergency number.
KEZI-TV reports Avery Boniface began calling the Eugene Police Department non-emergency number at about 3 a.m. Monday and called the number approximately 350 times.
Police went to his residence but he didn’t answer the door.
