New cell tower brought to rural Wisconsin

MARATHON COUNTY, Wis. (WAOW)– A new cell tower is bringing new opportunities to rural Wisconsin.  

Marathon County partnered with Bug Tussel, a wireless high-speed internet provider to bring a new cell tower to Little Chicago. 

“This tower in Little Chicago is important because its area was identified as a critical area,” said John Robinson, board member for Marathon County. ”Due to the lack of internet access and in some cases failing landlines that were old and people couldn’t call 9-1-1 service.”

OHP retiring previous *55 number, becoming secondary 911 call center (OK)

A method of calling for assistance on Oklahoma highways is being retired.

For almost three decades, drivers of Oklahoma’s highways have been able to call *55  for assistance.

The number was previous implemented in 1992 as a cellular service that would, “automatically route the call to the nearest highway patrol field headquarters for assistance. Through updated technology, OHP can now receive transferred 911 calls that will include all the caller’s information, including their contact number and location,” according a news release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s website.

Henry County is hiring, and the need is dire (VA)

Henry County held a job fair at the Jack Dalton Park at the back of the Henry County Administration building during the day on Tuesday, and by the end of the 4-hour session, there was some optimism among government officials looking to fill a number of positions.

Newly-Retired Jenks 911 Dispatcher Honored For 46 Years Of Service (OK)

JENKS, Oklahoma – The City of Jenks is honoring a newly-retired city employee for 46 years of service.

“Therefore I, Cory Box, Mayor of Jenks do hereby proclaim October 16th in the City of Jenks as ‘James Bruce Parker’ day,” Box said.

Would increasing salaries for Durham 911 operators help retain more employees as the shortage continues? (NC)

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The city of Durham has one of the highest 911 operator vacancy rates in the Triangle, almost 40 percent of their operator positions are unfilled. 

Durham city officials told CBS 17 they are working to fill these vacancies, but in the last couple of weeks two more call taker positions have opened.
