By a vote of 26,428 (61.04 percent) to 16,867 (38.96 percent), voters in Genesee County renewed the monthly 911 surcharge of $1.86 on landline, wireless, and voice over the internet protocol (VoIP) service users within the county during the special election Tuesday, May 4.
According to the Genesee County Clerk, the unofficial results show that 43,458 of the 343,074 registered voters in Genesee County voted in the election. This is a 12.67-percent voter turnout… READ MORE

Lorain County Administrator Tom Williams says the county will investigate the cause of a 911 system outage.
The outage occurred at 9:18 p.m. on May 2, according to Lorain County’s emergency notification system.
Williams said it lasted 10-15 minutes. The county will produce a report following the conclusion of its investigation, he said.
The issue has multiple sources, Williams said.
In investigating the problem, county officials discovered the system was setup improperly with the main power supply and the backup generator plugged into a single power strip, delaying the system from being restored, he said… READ MORE

The Durham Regional Police Association is calling on the region to hire more 911 operators.
President Colin Goodwin says public safety is at risk.
“Why do we have to wait for something bad to happen?” Goodwin asked, “The ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure at the end of the day. We need to make sure that our 911 centre is appropriately staffed. We need to have the people in there and it puts the safety of the public and region at risk if it isn’t staffed appropriately.” … READ MORE

LEWIS COUNTY, Mo., (KHQA) — UPDATE:
Northeast Emergency Communications Center (NECOMM) 911 officials were notified just after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday that an equipment failure at a major telephone switching facility located in Wentzville, Mo., was the cause of an outage that prevented some telephone customers from reaching 911 services from their landline phone earlier in the day.

ELLSWORTH — Hancock County Regional Communications Center (RCC) dispatcher David Brady has been answering 911 calls, calming panicked callers and dispatching deputies, firefighters and EMTs for longer than some people have been married.
On Tuesday, the Hancock County Commissioners recognized Brady for 40 years of service to the county. The recognition was held during the board’s regular monthly meeting held via online conference platform Zoom.
