Durham no longer routing 911 calls to Raleigh as new operators start Tuesday (NC)

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – On Tuesday, Durham city officials said 911 calls would no longer be routed to Raleigh. They said they now have enough trained workers to answer all the calls that come into Durham’s call center.

CBS 17 broke the story in December that some of Durham’s 911 calls were being routed to Raleigh-Wake 911 due to a shortage of call takers.

Closure of OPP East Region Communications Centre a ‘loss to the community’ says mayor (Canada)

Tucked away in a large commercial building off Cornelia street west in Smiths Falls — is the Ontario Provincial Police’s East Region Communications Centre. The OPP has announced it will be closing the facility, which employs more than a hundred mostly civilians.

Delaware starting to formulate plans for ‘988’ mental health hotline

Delaware officials are still sorting out how to take advantage of an upcoming shortened national phone number to access suicide prevention help.

An FCC goal is in place that by July 16, 2022, dialing 988 will allow callers to more quickly reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, which is currently accessed at 1.800.273.TALK (8255).
