JCC supes direct county staff to keep 911 dispatch center in the county

The James City County Emergency Communications Center isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Help is wanted across central Texas for the people often called the first-first responders.

The Austin Police Department is trying to fill 20 openings at its emergency communications center. Twelve of those vacancies are for 911 operators, while the other eight are for police dispatchers.

ESInets Help Public Safety Agencies Move to NG911

This is one of the dream scenarios for next-generation 911 systems: A caller dials 911 and connects to a public safety answering point. After getting basic information about the emergency, including its nature, location and whether anyone is injured, the caller is able to use his or her smartphone to send the PSAP pictures and video of the incident.

That information is then relayed to first responders so that they have as much information as possible while en route to the scene.

However, for that to actually happen, the PSAP needs to be connected to an IP-based Emergency Services IP Network, or ESInet. An ESInet is a critical element, and the networking backbone, upon which PSAPS and public safety agencies can build services toward a system called Next Generation 911.

Edinburg dispatchers use new technology to video chat 911 callers

EDINBURG (KGBT) — When someone calls 911 they are often in distress and may have difficulty describing what is happening around them, but the Edinburg Police Department is hoping to change that by using new technology that makes it easier for dispatchers to communicate.

“Caller will call the [Edinburg] police department regarding something going on and we will send them a link. It’s very simple, you just activate the link, and start the video and then you can point the camera at the incident,” said Edinburg Chief of Police Cesar Torres. “We had few incidents already where it’s been used, and we were happy.”

Dispatchers will text a link to the phone number calling 911 within the Edinburg dispatch coverage area. Then, the caller can…..
