The process to find a new Branch County 911 Central Dispatch director has drawn 25 candidates and is on track to name a person for that job by mid summer, Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told a commission work session Thursday.
“We are very pleased. This is more than expected,” Norman said. He said 37% came from within the county, with an equal number from adjacent countries.
After 911 directors around the state shared the notice of opening there were 18% from outside this area with 8% of the applicants outside Michigan. Norman used percentages rather than actual numbers…

“We are the go between,” said Wells. “When they need assistance, we’re the ones they call and it’s our job to see to it that they get what they need, whether it’s medical or police; whatever they’re calling on, it’s our job to see to it that they get it.”
“No one calls the police department when they’re having a good day, so it’s our job, us as dispatchers, to de-escalate and get as much information as quickly as possible.”
Thankfully, things are not always hectic in the dispatch office, though Downey’s dispatchers ask that you refrain from ever using the word “quiet.”

GENESEE COUNTY — Voters across the county approved a renewal of the 911 surcharge, Tuesday, to continue funding for emergency dispatch services, while a proposal to fund mental health services for county residents was also given a nod.

CLARION – New regulations are now in place for all communication towers in Clarion County.At their April 27 meeting, Clarion County Commissioners Ted Tharan, Wayne Brosius and Ed Heasley unanimously approved Ordinance No. 1 of 2021 — an amendment to the 2017 Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance — which now ensures that the county has “co-location opportunities as a community benefit to improve communications for county departments and the Department of Public Safety.”“We don’t know what we’re going to need in 20 years,” Tharan said, pointing to the need for the ordinance, explaining that the new regulation mandates that all current and future tower owners reserve a spot on their towers for county satellites, microwaves or other communication equipment if needed.Tharan said the new clause in the amended ordinance allows the county to have access to space on communication towers without having to rent it…
