With $3.4 million in federal funding provided through the American Rescue Plan, Norwich City Council gave the green light for a series of substantial upgrades to the city’s antiquated emergency dispatch system.

“We have known for a decade, maybe longer, that our dispatch center was in serious need of an upgrade,” said the council’s president pro-tempore, Joseph DeLucia.

Some improvement came in 2018 when Norwich voters approved a ballot question to upgrade radio systems used by the police department…

Jefferson City’s Public Safety Committee unanimously voted Thursday morning to move forward with hiring incentives for police officers and communications operators.

The proposal will now go to the city council for approval. If approved, the Jefferson City Police Department plans to start offering the following incentives in March:

  • $10,000 for POST-certified officers;
  • $5,000 for non-POST-certified officers;
  • $5,000 for experienced communications operators; and,
  • $2,500 for communications operators with no prior experience…

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Door dash driver Ryan Menehune’s call to 911 after a customer threatened to shoot him fell well outside the goal to answer emergency calls.

“I started making my exit around the corner to where I had parked. And that’s when I heard him rack the slide on his gun signifying that he chambered a round into the firearm,” Menehune said.

Police Chief Chad Kasmar had been the center’s director at the time of the emergency call.
