SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County emergency response dispatch center has its thumb on the pulse of regional police and fire trends, documenting the second year of the pandemic’s impact on local services in its latest report.
The Santa Cruz County Regional 9-1-1 Annual Report for 2021 was released Thursday during a regular board meeting for the agency, better known as Netcom. The 25-year-old joint powers authority, based in a call center high in DeLaveaga Park, dispatches emergency calls for ambulance and city and county police and fire services, with the exception of the Scotts Valley Police Department. FAIRFIELD — When an emergency call comes in, a dispatcher takes down the information, shares it with the other needed departments and sends out the needed responders.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced that Karima Holmes will be returning to the Office of Unified Communications as acting director, less than two years after an audit determined the city’s 911 system fell short of national standards.
Bowser made the announcement Thursday afternoon, saying Holmes would be returning to the post she held from 2015 until her resignation in Jan. 2021.
The mayor’s statement said that Holmes was a “seasoned public safety professional and a recognized emergency communications industry leader” for the past 20 years…

Police stations say to call the “routine” phone number if you have trouble reporting an emergency.
HARTFORD, Conn. — Multiple police departments in the state say they are experiencing problems with their emergency 9-1-1 calls.
Two town police departments, Waterbury and Trumbull, have reported difficulties in receiving calls from the 911 system.

The plans for a new Emergency Operations Center were first addressed by Creek County Commissioners back in August of 2021 when the feasibility study was sent. Now, the designs for the building are back. The new building designs include a covered carport area for election board members that need to unload or load things into their cars. There are plans for a lobby and restrooms, but the commissioners want to expand the building and shrink the parking lot from the presented designs. They want to include parking in the front that would allow people to park there for the Collins building as well…
