The Palouse’s regional emergency dispatch center is celebrating National Telecommunicator Week this week.
Whitcom reports that their dispatchers answered nearly 91,000 phone calls last year and entered nearly 65,000 calls for service and completed nearly 1,500 hundred hours of training. In recent weeks dispatchers Carly Collings and Ashleigh Witt received a commendation from Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins for an April 5th call. The towns of Fairfield and Westport have combined their 911 call centers at a new emergency dispatch center at Sacred Heart University.
The two towns started talking about combining their 911 call centers five years ago in order to reduce duplication of resources and increase response time, and opened the dispatch center in March.
