For the second time, Maryland State Senator Cheryl Kagan was chosen as the Next Generation 9-1-1 Institute’s Government Leader of the Year for her groundbreaking work to improve emergency services.
Thirty-six states enacted 88 bills regarding 911 in 2022, excluding appropriation bills, to support and improve the operation of public emergency communications services. New laws mainly concern reclassifying 911 telecommunicators, NG911 and training telecommunicators in telephone cardiopulmonary resuscitation, known as T-CPR.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies wants to hear residents’ comments, “commendations or concerns” regarding the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office receives its law enforcement accreditation from CALEA, according to a press release from VCSO. The sheriff’s office public safety communications and its training academy also participate in CALEA accreditation programs, the release stated.

“Dispatchers are the first responders,” said Charlie McNichol, director of the Mobile County Communications District. “Response time really starts when we pick up the phone.”
That’s why 9-1-1 call centers need to be dependable and prepared for circumstances that might interrupt their data connections. For the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board, that means ensuring the state’s 118 primary public safety answering points (PSAPs) or 9-1-1 call centers have backups in place in the event their primary fiber connections are disrupted for any reason.
