911 overview presented to Floyd County Fiscal Court (KY)

The Prestonsburg/Floyd County Emergency Communications Center, which came under fire following the murder of Amber Spradlin in June, was put in a more positive light during the Floyd County Fiscal Court’s regular meeting Aug. 16.

Prestonsburg Interim Police Chief Ross Shurtleff presented an overview of the local 911 system, giving a brief history and providing various statistics about its operations and employees.

Shurtleff said the local 911 center is “as advanced as technically possible.”

Automated dispatch assistance coming to Provo-Orem emergency communications center (UT)

When telephones and radio channels were the only means to manage emergencies, dispatchers could only hope for a better future. Thanks to advances in technology, that future is now for the Metro Emergency Communications center.

When someone calls to report an emergency in Provo or Orem, be it a fire or police matter, dispatchers will now be working with a new, automated dispatching system designed to expedite calls and reduce response times — potentially saving lives.
