Belleville’s fire department is retiring its antiquated radio system — last updated in 2006 — to better equip city firefighters serving on the front lines with critical modern communications.

Belleville Fire and Emergency Services (BEFS) was earmarked in the 2022 city capital budget to spend $1.4 million to upgrade its aging radio communications system in two phases.
