A method of calling for assistance on Oklahoma highways is being retired.
For almost three decades, drivers of Oklahoma’s highways have been able to call *55 for assistance.
The number was previous implemented in 1992 as a cellular service that would, “automatically route the call to the nearest highway patrol field headquarters for assistance. Through updated technology, OHP can now receive transferred 911 calls that will include all the caller’s information, including their contact number and location,” according a news release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s website.
