The new system with 1,800 radios for countywide public safety and public works employees should be fully operational by September, according to Project Manager Brian Zastoupil with the Red River Regional Dispatch Center.

City and rural firefighters, police and sheriff’s departments, ambulance crews, public works employees and others involved in public safety use the radios.

The 15-year-old system the county is replacing is outdated and inefficient, with some parts for the radios and other infrastructure no longer available from manufacturers, Zastoupil told county commissioners at their meeting Monday, June 21…
