The statewide shortage of emergency medical workers and Meadville’s search for new revenue converged last week in the form of an agreement between the city and the city’s only ambulance company.
The agreement approved unanimously by members of Meadville City Council will allow Meadville Central Fire Department personnel to drive Meadville Area Ambulance Service (MAAS) vehicles from response scenes in the city to the hospital under certain circumstances when short staffing would otherwise force MAAS to wait for the arrival of personnel from elsewhere in the county.
