The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is severing a long partnership with fire agencies around the county by ending its fire dispatching operations.
In a Sept. 30 letter to fire chiefs, Sheriff Jamie Scardina wrote that offering fire dispatching “is no longer feasible” and that it would end June 30, a move that is anticipated to shift millions of dollars’ worth of operating costs away from the sheriff’s office.
A silent 911 call to the Mesquite Emergency Dispatch Center in Nevada resulted in the rescue of a woman and her three children from an alleged kidnapper early Tuesday morning, after the woman called 911 and left an open line until she could ask for help, giving authorities time to gather location information and send officers to intercept the car and take the suspect into custody.
The partnership with Zetron to deliver a statewide Next Generation 9-1-1 Shared Services Program provides the most current and efficient tools available to our Public Safety Answering Points at a fraction of the taxpayer cost it would take for them to upgrade on their own.”
