Days after a Sarnia police dispatcher called prolonged wait times for non-emergency calls “embarrassing” and appealed for the city to hire more officers, police chief Norm Hansen says Sarnia residents should not be worried about sub-par service.
It is “not common” for Sarnia residents to wait more than two hours for police to respond to non-emergency calls, Hansen said, speaking to the concerns of 18-year veteran dispatcher Courtney Thornton, who went before the police board Thursday.
All calls are given a priority and those deemed urgent are addressed right away, Hansen added, such as in-progress break-ins or assaults.
